CARACALC

Besides the automatic Positional Optimization the Sound Field Calculation is the most used and most important application of all room acoustic calculations in CARA.

First you should call the menu item Parameter from the Options menu. Adjust the Maximum Reflection Order to 4 or 5 for example. For further 'Sound Field Calculations' you may increase this value if calculating times are still acceptable.

'Sound Field Calculations' determine all important room acoustic data at about 1,000 -3,000 equally distributed grid points at the level of the listener's ear for example. These concern the Sound Pressure Frequency Response, the Location, and Speech Intelligibility, as well as the time dependence of the Sound Wave Propagation in a room.

The Results of the 'Sound Field Calculations' refer to the current positions of the loudspeakers.

Based on these results you may find the best listening places taking into account the criteria 'Sound Coloration' (linearity of the frequency response), 'Location' (sound imaging), and 'Speech Intelligibility'.
This is an alternative to the 'Positional Optimization' if the positions of the loudspeakers must not be changed.
